"Human Computer" Shakuntala Devi film review

A movie worth watching !!!

The movie released yesterday on Amazon prime. Vidya Balan who played Shakuntala Devi certainly stole the show.

Due to Covid-19, watching movies are becoming a new normal,Yesterday a film called Shakuntala Devi was released on the OTT platform Amazon prime. It is a biographical comedy-drama film filmed on the life of Shakuntala Devi who is also known as "human computer". She was also listed in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1982.
 

The film starts with Shakuntala's daughter Anupama Banerji played by Sanya Malhotra filing a criminal case against her mother. The movie then goes in flashback on why she is doing it. Shakuntala was born in a Bangaluru, Karnataka. Her father Bishaw Mitra Mani played by Prakash Belawadi used to work in a  circus as a magician. He realized that her daughter has a great capability of memorizing big numbers. He then used to take her along in the magic shows. She did all this without any formal education. She learned all this with the help of Vedic Maths. In 1944 Devi moved to London along with her father. She grew anger in her heart towards her parents and finally she left them and started to travel to different countries for her show. She returns to India in mid 60s and married  Paritosh Banerji played by Jisshu Sengupta. while Amit Sadh plays the role of her daughter Anupama's husband.


After her daughter was born, Shakuntala pampered her a lot, she even used to take her along, just like his father. Her daugher too started hating her. And at one point, the audience also resonating with Anupama's emotions.  But the end, will literally melt your heart with emotions. 

Although the movie is a tribute to the great mathematician, the movie also celebrates the womanhood. Shakuntala's relationship with her daughter and the struggles she had to face, truly made the movie a worth watch. All the characters played their part brilliantly, but of course it was Vidya playing the role of Shakuntala that will make you mesmerized with her performance.
